Gary and Kay grew up in South Dakota. After high school Gary moved to Colorado to further his education and then went to work for Phillips Petroleum Co. in their mapping department. In the late 60’s he moved back to the Black Hills of South Dakota and started a construction business. After Kay graduated from Northern State University with a degree in Secondary Education she went to work for the state of South Dakota. After a few years she too moved back to the Black Hills. In 1986 we moved to Colorado Springs where Gary went to work for a large construction company managing projects until retirement. Kay remained a stay at home mom until our four kids were raised.
Kay came from a charismatic background where she accepted Christ at an early age but became a Presbyterian during her college years. It wasn’t until we moved to Colorado Springs and God led her to Village 7 PC, that she learned of the biblical grounding of the PCA reformed doctrine. Gary grew up in a strong Catholic family, but over the years their dogma became questionable to him, as the Holy Spirit was working to change his life. Initially there was some resistance to the reformed teaching but through God’s mercy and grace, Gary turned his life over to Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.
In the spring of 2006 Gary and Kay went on a short-term mission trip to Juarez, Mexico. God began working in their hearts and they answered the call to become missionaries serving with BEAMM on the US/Mexico border. Over the past three years, Gary has assisted with various BEAMM construction projects, such as the Promesa de Vida church building in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, the Peña and Rodriguez houses in El Paso, TX, and the sanctuary of La Vid Church in Laredo, TX. With Gary's thirty years of commercial construction experience, he helps BEAMM short-term teams to provide quality construction to the project's recipients, as well as ministers to those who come as part of these teams.
