Julio came to know the Gospel when God gave his girl friend, now
his wife, the desire to read the Bible. The two of them, without
anyone else, read it and they understood that they were called by
God, an understanding that He was giving them. Later they wanted
to be a part of a congregation but didn't know of any church. For
that reason Arlette called her grandfather, who was a Presbyterian
pastor in Mexico. He came to help them find the Presbyterian Church
in Mexicali. Later they married as new converts and the day after
their wedding, in 1994, they were baptized. They worked in that
church for four years and then God gave them the desire to start
a new work, with a different mentality, one that would be independent
economically, active, and with prepared leadership.
When they started that work, God gave them the opportunity to share
the Gospel with their family. Two of my Arlette's three brothers
converted, and seven of Julio's brothers and sisters and his mother
are now evangelicals in the midst of traditionally Catholic families
with hard hearts. By the grace of God now many of them are leaders.
The work in Mexicali has been going on for five years and there
are 50 members including children. In the United States, they have
studies on Wednesdays in Calexico, CA, and on Thursdays in El Centro.
Sometimes there are as many as 20. God has been merciful with them.
