PLEASE NOTE:
All Summer Intern positions have been filled for Summer 2010.
Have you ever thought about what it would be like to serve people of another culture, to see how the Gospel might affect their lives, to get to know them personally, how they live, what are the day-to-day issues that they face? Have you desired to work with short-term work teams, helping them to make an impact on the lives of others? Have you thought about helping others to learn English, teaching them how to use a computer, showing them how to maintain their car or their house? Do you have compassion for those who hurt, physically, emotionally, spiritually?
Well, if you've answered "YES" to any of these questions, yet aren't certain that you want to serve long-term, a BEAMM Internship may be just the ticket for you! BEAMM interns serve from one to eleven months and help teach English, assist with short-term teams, assist church planters, teach music and voice, and help with administrative tasks. They live in the culture, rub shoulders with the people in the border cities, and develop a missions awareness.
Sound interesting? Why not contact BEAMM Administrative Assistant LuAnn Bowman or Mission to the World for more information?
(By the way, you don't need to know Spanish to work with BEAMM when you serve for one or two months, but it is helpful. Conversational Spanish ability, or willingness to learn, is required for three to eleven-month interns.)
I grew up as a missionary kid on the Border of El Paso and Juarez. Most of my childhood was spent in Juarez so I speak fluent Spanish. As a kid I looked forward to the summers when groups of mission teams came down to work. It was fun to run around the site, help the little that I could, and meet people. Last summer, Mission to the World hired me to be one of the five interns to work with the mission teams that would be coming down.
My job description was to remain with the teams, work with them, and translate for them. It was a great experience. Working with people I didn't know to serve the Churches in Juarez in order to further God's kingdom was awesome! I saw relationships between the Mexican Churches and the Churches represented by the mission teams blossom. At times things got hectic and difficult, but God was always there to pull us through. His grace was poured out on myself, the other interns, and the BEAMM missionaries in so many ways. It was amazing to see relationships between the Mexican Churches and the Churches represented by the mission teams blossom.
It was my pleasure to serve and I grew because of it. Serving as an intern is one of the best jobs in the world. I plan on interning again in the near future and would ask my readers to prayerfully consider applying for this awesome job.

This past summer was my second summer interning in Juarez. During my eight-week stay I experienced and saw God’s character in new ways. Most astounding was His daily grace and His great mercy. Each morning He revived spirits. With trials and fatigue, He was sufficient. With blessing and church growth, He was overabundant. Interning provided me with the opportunity to be stretched but also to be blessed. In eight weeks, God can show you so much about Himself, yourself, as well as the rest of the world. I was able to form relationships with members of the churches. I was also able to grow closer to the missionaries. My fellow interns were good friends and support. Each week the Lord brought in new team members who were incredible. With teams coming in from all over the country, I was able to benefit so much from the wisdom of new faces as well as some familiar faces. There is a strong family of believers and it was great to grow close to people throughout the summer.
I think the real testament to my experience as an intern is that I was sad to leave. I love the people-the teams, the missionaries, and the Mexicans. Interning is difficult, but it is the difficulty that makes you grow and learn. Complementing the difficulty is great joys. And these joys are administered in all different ways. The Lord is good and I never have seen such grace in all my life. This is a wonderful experience for people who have servant attitudes and who love working with people.
