Ryan and Karen Culbertson met while serving with Young Life Ministry to High School students. After marrying in May of 2000, the couple moved to Ryan's hometown of Greenwood, SC, where Ryan has worked in his family's printing company and Karen has worked as a pre-school teacher and home-maker. Ryan began to feel a strong call to mission work after a summer mission trip to Reynosa, Mexico, in the summer of 2009. Through much prayer, both Karen and Ryan feel it is God's will for their family that they return to Reynosa and serve there with Isaiah 55 Deaf Ministries and their school. Drawing on his background in education, Ryan will be working with business owners and the community to establish a vocational program for students graduating from Institutio Isaias 55. In addition, Ryan will be assisting with summer work teams and creating a discipleship program for college interns. Karen's primary focus will be at home with the couple's two children, Ellie and John Thomas, but will offer a supporting role to the ministry as Ryan's helpmate in all things.
